Location Photography Talk and Show

This coming Wednesday I will be the quest speaker at the Schenectady Photographic Society meeting. The Society is 75 years old and one of the most active photo groups in the Capital area. My topic will be Location Photography. I will discuss with several multimedia presentations and Q and A, what it means to be a location photographer. Over 95 % of my corporate assignments are on location shoots with over half out of the Northeast area. I have included some images in this post from a shooting trip last summer in Italy and Spain for several of my clients. My stock agency is Corbis and they handle most of the type of work you see here.

On the Road... Again

Even though the winter months move me inside the office more, I still have been travelling a bit and have even more travel plans as March begins. I just returned from a four day shoot in Alabama for Tiffin Motorhomes. They produce the finest quality luxury motorhomes in the industry, and I am proud to be part of the marketing of these motorhomes.
DESTINATION WEDDINGS will keep me on the road soon with weddings in New Hampshire and Vermont. I will also be travelling to the Southwest for both work and a wedding conference in Las Vegas in April. Also in April I am shooting a few clients in the South Carolina and the Southeast area of the country.

New Equipment

Every year in January and February, I try and add new equipment to my company. This year was no exception! Recent additions was yet another highend digital camera, the new Nikon D200 now has a home in my bag as a back-up to my other Nikon D series cameras. This camera has a nice larger viewing screen and some other nice features great for the wedding photographer.
I also bought more lighting equipment, included here is the new Nikon SB-800 flash, another Dyna-lite power pack to drive the flash and a fresh set of new flash heads from dyna-lite for studio lighting.
In the office I have a new Apple G5 Macintosh with the speedy intel chip inside. A viewSonic monitor right next to my G5 gives me a 36" viewing space for album design and photoshop work.

Still working on website

Always looking to improve my website, I am currently still working on important additions. A new links, multi-media, and even this blog will be added to the new and improved site. The multi-media area is very exciting for me. More and more of my brides want to see me offer movies, slide shows and other dvd type of wedding presentations, so that's my goal with this page.

Assignment in Breckinridge, Colorado

When not shooting weddings, I also work for corporate accounts. The weekend of Dec 9-10-11 was such an assignment. Tiffin Motorhomes was the client. They are based in Red Bay, Alabama and my assignment was to shoot one of their new Motorhomes with a family enjoying a great ski weekend. A great family and great weather made this a whole lot of fun and created many successful images.

New Images December 5, 2005 Evelyn and Shar

Eveyln and Shar were married in the beautiful Catskill Mountains of Upstate New York. Although it was the first week in Nov, we were lucky to still have some nice color on the trees. These new reprints from their wedding of several years ago are now being printed on the Epson 4800 (see studio tools). I was curious to see how with a new printer, inks and a new fine at paper how they might look. I am very happy with the results.

I spoke with them recently and they just had a baby! Now what I have to start doing is photographing the children of couples I have captured as bride and groom.

My studio tools - Epson Printers December 4, 2005

I lot of my clients ask me about my fine art wedding prints and album creations. They want to know a bit about how I make them and what printers are used. So, here they are! I have been a user of Epson printers for nearly 20 years. When I first worked for Apple Computer, I began to explore printers beyond what Apple had been offering and fell in love with the Epson products.

My studio has four Epson Printers, all used for different tasks. For daily printouts, mostly BW letters and such is the Epson Stylus 2000P. For contact sheets and some limited color projects I use the Epson Stylus Photo 2200.

My most recent purchases are the top of the line Epson 4800 and Epson 7800 wide format archival printers. These are the real workhorses in the studio. Both use the new Ultrachrome archival ink sets for not only the best color, but the longest lasting prints.

The prints from these Epson printers will easily last a lifetime. I use mostly Epson archival fine art papers presented in acid free archival albums.

These studio printers look like the above images starting with the 7800, 4800, 2200 and at the bottom 2000P.

Exposed Gallery of Fine Art - November 26, 2005

Several of my fine art images are now on display in a great new gallery here in the Albany , New York area. The new gallery is called "Exposed - Gallery of Art Photography" and is located in Delmar, NY, just minutes from my office/studio in Glenmont.

This first major show is called Lens Gumbo redux and runs through January 3, 2006. It is a terrific mix of images from over 30 fine art photographers, many from the Upstate New York area. They are located on the 2nd Floor at 318 Delaware Avenue in Delmar. They can be reached at 518.475.1853.

Here are a few of my fine art images.

Joe Buissink Workshop - November 14, 2005

The PPSNY Professional Photgraphers Society of New York hosted a great one day wedding photography workshop with celebrity wedding photographer Joe Buissink on November 14th 2005.

I attended this workshop and was very impressed not only with Joe's wonderful images, but his ease and willingness to share with all of the nearly 100 participants.

Joe was very open and honest with all of us. This is not always the case with some of the top photographers in the business, it was very refreshing!

Everything was at a very nice Inn located in Newfane, Vermont. The Four Columns Inn was the site for this special wedding. Here are some of my favorite images from this great day!

Peter Finger's Blog

Well I did it! I never thought I would grow up and be a blogger, but here it is!

What will this blog include? Well, I want to use this blog to share not only my recent shoots, assignments, photos and travels, but also share these moments through words and images.
